Aloha Classmates!

It’s so impressive reading all your bio’s!  A very diverse and successful crowd, that’s for sure.  What have I been doing you ask?    I began working full time right out of high school.  I was living in San Jose and working in Redwood City.  While driving home one afternoon on 280 I could not see the foothills because of the smog.  That was when I had my epiphany “I am so out of here – I refuse to bring up children in this environment!”  so…I moved to Kauai in 1973 and have been here ever since.  I met my husband, David, at a volleyball game at our classmate Vern Bishop’s house here on Kauai.  David grew up in Mountain View and graduated from St. Francis and San Diego State!

After arriving on Kauai, I paddled canoe with a canoe club for one year but found that was just way too much work!!!!  I then started playing women’s slow pitch softball and my team actually went on to win the State championships in 1978.  I played softball for over ten years.  I have always loved women’s softball and never miss watching a college tournament.

David & I have two children, Bret is 26 and went to college at Southern Oregon University.  He is now back and working on Kauai.    Elizabeth is 21 and is a senior at Chico State where she is a sprinter on the track and field team.  Before transferring to Chico, she ran for Sonoma State where she holds several track and field  records.  We’ve really enjoyed traveling to her track meets during her college career and will really miss watching her compete.

Back in 1980 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to audition with an “almost all”  girl’s rock and roll band  (just where are those girl drummers when you need them?) and ended up being the lead singer with “Lips on the Move” for over 15 years.  What a blast we had.  Being all women  puts a bit of a “spin” on practice time, however.  A lot of times we had to bring our babies and toddlers with us to practice.  So..in between songs, one of us would run over and crank that baby swing to stop the baby from crying, or change a diaper, or………  When they got bigger, it’s amazing how they could run back and forth and never trip on any of our cords!!  If only we had trained them to carry and set up our equipment!   To this day, they can all sing the lyrics to Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Bryan Adams– you name it!   But…after years of getting home from a gig at 3 AM, I just couldn’t handle those late nights anymore and retired my SG (that’s a guitar, for those of you who wouldn’t know!)  Darn, I don’t think I’ll be able to squeeze into that leopard skin spandex dress for this photo. Ha!

I worked off and on for twenty years at Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu where I assisted the homeowners with renovating and decorating their condominiums.  We’ve owned a lumber yard for the past fifteen or so years and I was fortunate to be able to quit my job in 1999 to be home with my teenagers.

This past June I moved my mom from Gilroy to Kauai.  I now spend my days taking care of my mom, my home, my property and enjoying my koi pond.  David & I do like to travel and especially enjoy our cruises.  Life here on Kauai has been wonderful.  I have never taken the beauty of Kauai for granted  - we have been so blessed to spend our lives here.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our reunion this September!  I have a lot to ponder though:   just what WILL I wear?  how many pounds should I lose?  should I get that facelift now?, girdle?  Nah!!!  Keep laughing and smiling – until then….

I've been teaching in the primary grades for 33 years, and I still look forward to every day. In the last 2 years I've had a chance to develop my skills in teaching music to kids I'm thinking of retiring in a few years so my husband, Scott (WGHS '67), and I can travel more, or maybe I'll become a music teacher. Our daughter, Megan, lives in Paris most of the time, while our two sons, Ben and Peter, are here in Santa Cruz. We feel lucky to live in Santa Cruz.

I've been married to my high school sweetheart, Carol (Gemo), for 36 yrs.  We have 2 children: Jeff, 34 and Kerrie, 30...each of which has given us a grandson...Chase, 3 and Brett, 9 mns.  I'll be retiring from the force in January after 24 years, half of which has been riding a motorcycle.  It has been a tough job, but someone had to do it.  I enjoy bass fishing, golf, bacci ball and obviously, spending time with my grandsons.  Carol still works at Bank of the West (30+ yrs), and I'll probably keep her at it for awhile.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up on old times.

Hello WGHS Alumni, after graduation, I attended SJCC for a year before moving to Santa Cruz in 1969. Have found it difficult to leave! I used to work so I could travel & spent time in Europe,Mexico & Hawaii. My sweet daughter Leah was born in 1983 & recently graduated from Cal Poly in SLO. I  married my husband Lewis in Maui 2 years ago and we live in beautiful Capitola. I work as a nurse in the UCSC Health Center & am really enjoying the students. After all my WGHS shenanigans, I feel very blessed. Unfortunately I will be away on our reunion week end but have enjoyed "catching up" via the website. Thank you to the committee for a great job.

In junior high school there were three things that seemed like the coolest possible things to do; be in a band, make violins and surf. (OK, biological imperatives aside). I must be a case of arrested developement because those are the still the same things I want to do as an adult. After Willow Glen, I went to SJCC. Majored in swimming, water polo and biological imperatives. Had a great time with Jeff Ross, Rob Genest, Kurt Altschul and others. After graduating, I transfered to SJS. I completed one semester. Lost interest in my psych major and in being in school, so I quit. The next year was spent traveling by thumb around the country. Home was a big victorian house in downtown SJ with 10 other people. Around this time I got into playing fiddle style on the violin. That lead to an invitation to move to Napa Valley and be in a band. I've been in NV ever since. In 1972 I met my wife, Cora. We will celebrate our 35th wedding anniverary this December! She is an RN. We like to travel, canoe, ocean kayak and anything else outdoors. I spent the seventies playing in bands, house painting and studying violin restoration with a local violin professor that did repairs on the side. In 1980 I opened Loveland Violin Shop and have been in the same location for over 28 years. I deal in violins of all levels, do restorations, repairs, rentals etc. I have some great employees and look forward to work everyday. I feel super fortunate to have work that I find endlessly interesting and fun. 1989 was a life changing year for me. Our son Julian was born. My moto had always been "I don't want kids, I want to be one!" Once we decided to have a child though, that changed. Having our son was the most fulfilling part of our lives. Julian and I surf, play music together and now he is working for me part time while attending SRJC. I don't kinow what I was thinking before but having a kid has been great. In 1990 I took up body boarding. In 2000 I learned to standup surf. For 18 years I have been surfing 110 to 130 days a year. I usually go dawn patrol before work with friends in Sebastopol. I live in the country near Calistoga but also spend a lot of time in Southern Baja. I've had a part time band "The Echoes" since 1985. I still enjoy rockin'out on my old Strat. I look forward to seeing y'all at the reunion! PS I'll put a picture up once I fugure out how to do it!

Single Again 3 2012-07-11 19:33:15
I left sunny California for the desert and mountians of Utah. I attended College in Utah, and loved it so much I never left. My Father lives in SJ and I have a Sister in San Rafael. I get back to Willlow Glen quarterly to help my Dad manage his properties on Lincoln and Malone Rd. I look forward to spending more time  this Summer at Santa Cruz and in San Francisco.

Seeing all the photo's from the year book brings back such grand memories, but as I recall at the 25th year reunion nobody recognized me. And, I had a hard time knowing who's who.

I have 3 great kids - All married and making me a grandpa six times.

I've spent most of my career in either Broadcasting and or Advertising.

In the last two years I have been working with a dermatologist. We market Hair Restoration. Know anyone who needs to grow some Hair?

Hi WG Friends,
I'm really looking forward to this reunion. It's hard to believe we graduated 40 years ago! I've lived in Los Gatos for 23 years, married for 24 to Marvin Lumbard, who was one of my dental hygiene patients. My mother is 94, living in Cupertino. My brother Steve  has been living in Long Beach for 35 years. I am spending quite a bit more time with my retired husband, mother, and brother while juggling my work as a marriage and family therapist, hypnotherapist, life coach and energy healer. My husband and I enjoy singing at New Thought churches and retirement communities with the Serendipity Choir. One of my favorite activities is swimming with the dolphins! For the last five years I've been sharing my experiences about how awesome the dolphins are and what they are teaching us about life and love. I also produced a Dolphin Healing Adventures CD that includes a presentation and powerful healing meditation.  If any of you are single and open to attracting your soul match, check out www.MakeMeaMatchInc.com I am their master relationship coach. I also joined Humanity Unites Brilliance, which is a humanitarian organization promoting business and personal development. There's never a dull moment with my son starting Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on September 22. He's majoring in Industrial Technology with a concentration in entrepreneurship. My husband retired from engineering design and management at Osram Sylvania (a Siemens corporation) in 2006 and has his own business designing mostly optical semiconductors for industry. We love to travel. Next stop will probably be South America while I still want to climb Machu Picchu! It's also a good time for a new dog to love.  I'm off to Kona, Hawaii to "work" in December, assisting on 7 boat swims with the dolphins and whales close by. I will also be facilitating a workshop for our five-day retreat Dolphins Joy and Brilliance. Join us for "Healing Energetically with the Dolphins." We will also have a HUB  Awakening Your Brillinace 3-day event in Kona. I am planning to buy a winter home on the Big Island of Hawaii in the future. Looking forward to hearing about what's happening with you and yours.  Visit me at www.InnerSuccess.com or www.DolphinSpiritofHawaii.com.

Aloha Blessings, Rayna

I live in San Jose and retired in 2002. I stay busy with my auto restoration business. I have a 30 year old daughter, two grandsons age 2 and 5 and a terrific son-in-law.

This reunion was the BEST that I've been to. If you attended the reunion, and didn't have a good time, it was your own fault. It was great seeing all of you. I was really shy in school. I only had a couple of classes at WGH, I spent most of my time at San Jose Tech. I want to thank the reunion committee for doing such a good job of putting this together. I am looking forward to the next get together. I hope to see you all soon.
