After a couple of years at San Jose City College, I began working full-time with Kelly-Moore Paint and going to school at night.  I eventually obtained my BA Management from Cal State Sonoma and my MBA from San Jose State.
For the next 20+ years, I served in a variety of Senior Management Positions - first with Kelly Moore, and then numerouse other large and small paint manufacturers around California. I retired in 2004, and have spent my time traveling, skiing and backpacking.
I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains in the hills west of Saratoga.  My passion has been winemaking since 1984, and I ran a non-commercial winemaking cooperative for 25 years.  Since 2012, I have only made wine for my own pleasure.
My hobbies are skiing, backpacking, hiking, travel, reading and movies.  I am on my second marriage, this one to Sharon Peters, who was raised on an Oklahoma cattle ranch.  We have been together for 36 years, no kids.  We travel extensively.  We both volunteer our time for local community groups.  I am a founding board member of the South Skyline FireSafe Council.
In 2015, I hiked the John Muir Trail (266 miles in 31 days), and in 2016 I hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail (172 miles in 21 days).

After high school, 2 years SJCC, then 4 years US Navy (submarine service in Hawaii/Guam).  After returning to San Jose in 1974, worked for City of Campbell for 3 years (mostly clerical), got married in 1976. Worked at Barnes Hind Pharmaceuticals in Sunnyvale for a year (various jobs). Moved to Modesto in 1978 and tried selling real estate, but the timing was laughable, and with a wife and 3 children, I needed steady employement. Sooo, found a job as a police/fire/ems dispatcher for Stanislaus County.  2 1/2 years later I was hired by the City of Sunnyvale Dept. of Public Safety as a Public Safety Dispatcher, and commuted from Modesto to Sunnyvale every work day (actually worked nights) until my retirement in December 2013.  In 2016 my wife and I sold our home in Modesto and now live on Kelly Ridge by Lake Oroville.

Well, where to start...

After graduation, went to San Jose State, not the "college" that I expected. Left after one semester, worked, got tired of California and headed north. Stopped in Eugene, Oregon, where I thought I ought to be able to get a job, and did.

Decided I had better go back to school. Majored in political science at the U of O and continued on to law school. Worked at the Oregon Legislature until I passed the bar and began my legal career as a Public Defender. Ran for political office and served two terms on the Eugene City Council.

Fate intervened. Got a call regarding interviewing for a workers' compensation defense position. Made the switch, no regrets.

Enjoy travel, playing bridge, sports (spectator and otherwise), gardening, good sex and hearing from old, "are we really this old", friends?

I've had a great life so far, worked as a pawnbroker, then as a sales rep selling everything from nut and bolts to cutting edge computer technology around the world.

I've raise two brilliant boys as a single dad; Mario ( son of Nancy Hooker) my Air Force Academy Grad and Gino ( from my 2nd marriage) my  MBA son.
My daughter Tava (daughter of Nancy Hooker).

I've lived and worked in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur; and recently returned to the U.S. after living and working in Liverpool, UK. Now back to my Willow Glen roots.

Glad to read the success stories that WG Class of '68  has accomplished, some brilliant stuff.
Sad to see that so many are no longer with us.

I wish you all the best as we move on down the line.

Alan -

It's been so interesting reading about everyone's lives, adventures, challenges and travels.  After one year at San Jose City College, I married and moved to Pennsylvania.  I worked  at (and attended) a great community college for 10 years before returning to San Jose, so that my husband could go back to College.  He got his degree in Geology, and worked at the USGS and a number of environmental firms before retiring almost 3 years ago.  I've worked at a global defense firm since 1979, and after more than a few years of night school at SJSU, I worked my way through the ranks (including a 2-year assignment as the Manager of Subcontracts in Troy, Michigan), and was promoted to the Director of Contracts in 1997.  I have about 100 professionals in my organization (specializing in contracts, pricing and export compliance), located across the country...which means I spend most of my time on airplanes traveling to such exotic spots at York (PA), Detroit, Anniston (Alabama), Orlando and numerous places in-between.  It's been quite challenging, but very rewarding.  I've been able to travel a fair amount internationally on business as well (Israel, Germany, England and Scotland, Australia).  The 3.5 million miles I've flown  has allowed us to vacation extensively both in the US and overseas.  We fell in love with Australia in 1994...the next trip there will be lucky #13!  We're off to Scotland and England in October (combined business and pleasure).  We are both happy and healthy, and I'm looking forward to retiring in the next couple of years.  When I'm not traveling, we spend time at our second home in the mountains (the thriving metropolis of Pioneer, CA) decompressing and breathing air at 3,500 feet - not 35,000 feet!  If anyone needs or wants information on working their frequent flier programs to the max, just let me know!.

Hi Everyone,

It has been so much fun to read about everyone!  I still can’t believe it has been 40 years!  After graduating college, I spent one year teaching in Liberia, West Africa.  I got engaged three days before I left to teach!  When I returned to California I got married and we moved to Texas where my husband David went to graduate school in Dallas.

When he graduated we moved back to California and he has been pastoring churches in California, and teaching part time in colleges.  We spent one summer in Hong Kong when he was teaching college courses. Our son Andrew and I loved shopping and getting to know the people while David was teaching.  We visited many schools and really enjoyed our time there.

We moved to Elk Grove where my husband has been pastoring a church for ten years now.  Our son is now 25 years old and just got married this summer.  He is working on his Masters and hopes to teach on the college level someday.  This is my 26th year of teaching 4th grade in Sacramento and I just love it!  School never gets dull and I enjoy my class every year. I also enjoy teaching seminars for teachers.  I am sorry that we will not be able to attend the reunion this year, but I have so enjoyed reading what everyone is doing.

I have been talking to Clara, my best friend from kindergarten through high school.  She is the greatest friend I have ever had!
