I'm looking forward to seeing you all again. I can't believe it's been 40 years.  After graduating, I passed up an opportunity to go to the San Francisco School of Dress Design and chose to attend San Jose State for 2 years.  I then worked in casinos, bought a house and met my future husband on a blind date.  We got married and moved to Berkeley where we opened the Acme Bread Company, had 2 kids etc... After years as a serious body builder, I slowed down a bit, took up tai chi, and became a Feldenkrais practitioner. With this work, I volunteer giving lessons to seniors. I also volunteer working at a cancer clinic for underserved women.
One of our daughters is going into high school, and the other just graduated from UCSB.

Hiya friends,

I had such a good time at the mixer on Friday and the Winery on Sat.!  Unfortunately, I had to leave around 5:00 because it was my husband's reunion too that same day and we wanted to attend both.  I wish I could have been in that group picture, darn!  Maybe you could paste my head in someway?  :)

I graduated from S.J.S.U. and began teaching at 34 years old.  I had one son named Mark (from Fred Galvez) who is 32 years old now.  He has given me 3 wonderful grandkids and a daughter (in law).  They live close to us in San Jose near Oakridge Mall.  We spend many of our weekends in Aptos where I  bought a townhome in 1996.  It's a good way to unwind on the weekends.  We also have one more darling granddaughter from my husband, Dale's daughter.  She is 20 months (Aug.).  His other daughter is a teacher like me.  They are twins.  So I actually have acquired 2 more daughters by marriage!  I am so blessed!  I teach 1st grade now (was a reading specialist for 8 years until the position was cut :(  )and plan to retire next June 2010 God willing!
It was great reading everyone's bio!  I hope to keep in touch and am looking forward to our next get together.  Let me know if I can help in anyway and thanks to all of you who organized our 40th!  It was awesome.  I still see Susan Strohm and Chris Russo.

God Bless,
Joanie

After graduation I attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, where I met my wife, who had the dorm room next to mine. We have been happy together for 37 years. Next I went to the University of Hawaii and University of Nebraska, culminating with a PhD in physics, specializing in astrophysics. After a postdoc in satellite astronomy, I went to work at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as a resident astronomer on a satellite mission. Promoted to management of the science operations fairly early, I then went on to manage a corporate research center. In recent years I have focused on science education issues. I was in charge of education programs for the Hubble Space Telescope and NASA Origins Education Forum. Currently I am at Johns Hopkins University, where I serve as the Assistant Director of the Maryland Space Grant Consortium. I have recently published a book on management titled, Optimizing Luck.

After 30 years in the electronics manufacturing industry (how I fell into that I don't know?) I am now a self employed specialty contractor doing small remodel upgrades.

My wife Jackie and I have been married for 17 years now. I have one child from my first marriage(Paul III). He is now 36 years old - wow... how can that be!!

I like Golf, Tennis, Cooking, Gardening. I recently began playing the drums again (an old, old passion of mine) and am now in a surf band with a couple of other old farts and having a lot of fun with music again.

Hope to see all of you at the reunion!

Single Again 2018-03-15 20:02:27
Living in the Santa Cruz Mountains all these years has allowed me to stay close to my San Jose roots but indulge my love of mountains, redwood trees and the beach.

I have been married twice, and remain very close friends with both my ex's - life's paths just took us in different directions.

Being a Realtor has been a great career, although it's a bit challenging at the moment.  I have had the priviledge of extensive traveling and living in many different parts of our amazing world.

I'm looking forward to catching up with everyone and hearing about your life adventures!

Life is good.  My husband retired in March and we left in April to travel the USA in our RV.  We plan to be gone about four months which will bring us home in August, just in time for the reunion. We've been married 26 years and we have four children and three grandchildren.

Since leaving WGHS 40 years ago I've worked as a farm worker, cannery laborer, shoe sales person, medical technician, science teacher, counselor, middle school vice principal, curriculum coordinator, and assistant superintendent. I have 4 wonderful children, all boys, and 4 beautiful grandchildren - 2 boys and 2 girls. It's been rough but am thankful for each little success and experience that came my way the last 40 years. I plan to have many more before I leave this dimension and continue my astral journey. WGHS for me was a trauma to get through. I remember the King assassination, the Kennedy assassinations, the riots in LA, the high school boycott in LA, the Tet Offensive, and the emergence of the UFW. I remember when Mr. Barton pulled me out of Chemistry class and told me that Mexicans could never be scientists and then put me into ornamental horticulture so I could get a job as a gardner when, and if, I graduated from WGHS. A few years later I wised up I got myself back into school and got degrees in Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. It did occur to me that I was not the only one he did that to. Although my years at Willow Glen were not a great experience, they did teach me resilience and perseverance in the face of racism and oppression. Weren't those 60's wonderful!

Wow is all I can say it sure was great to see how everyone has been doing all these years.  As usual I have been putting this off and really don’t know why but I like to let all of you know what I have been up to and I do plan to attend the Reunion.  After Willow Glen life went fast forward the 70’s were especially busy years I gave birth to two sons married and divorced Frank Negrete Class of 1966 Willow Glen and met the man I would marry Eight years later who I have been with and married to for the last 34 years. My boys have turned out to be incredible Men who have chosen Careers that I’m so proud of George is a Surgeon and my oldest he got married last year to a wonderful woman and she is a Dermatologist they live in Chicago but I have been trying to talk him into moving up my way hopefully within the next 3 years we will see.  My youngest Son Frankie and his wife live in the San Francisco Area and he has two sons that are 13 years apart he has remarried.  Thru some troubled times for he and his Ex Wife I was given the gift of having Matthew my oldest Grandson live with my Husband and I for about 5 years he was 3 years old when he came to live with us, but he is happily living with his Mother in Clovis who I have kept a loving and warm relationship with. In 1981 I got my Painting Contracting License and opened my own Company and did   Commercial Work all over California. A year later I married Emilio and can only describe him as the Salt of the Earth and my Rock. A funny story to tell to  give you a little insight to who he is since he will not be attending goes like this we were having a drink at a Sport Bar and low and behold who walks in but Jerry Method our Football Coach from Willow Glenn and my husband and he gave each other a hug I was totally shocked because when I was at Willow Glenn a lot of the girls thought Coach Method was very good looking and to my surprise  they had gone  to high school together and both played Varsity football for the first graduating Class of San Jose High at the location where it still is today small world so yes I did marry someone quite a bit older. I have kept in touch with Kim Keesling thru the years and even got the chance to visit her in Kauai when my son was stationed in Hawaii.  After Matthew went back with his Mom the house that we had lived in Cupertino for 25 years just seemed empty without Matt and we decided a change was needed so we sold and moved up to Diamond Springs   in 2001, because of health issues I closed my business in 2004 and Emilio opened up his own   Painting Business I was done.  But I did take up doing Stain Glass Work and have done several projects for other people’s houses and must say I never knew I could be so artistic I have also tried my hand at Gourds and to my surprise even sold some. We had been going up to Cabo  about twice a year but its gets harder and harder for me to get Emilio off his hill up here with all his wildlife that comes on our property he just seems content with the quiet life up here but I go to  San Jose at least every 3 months  so I hope to reconnect  and look forward to seeing all of you especially after reading all your Bio’s we have been blessed but who would have expected anything else from a class of the 60’s we have made a difference. See ya all Friday

I haven't seen most of my fellow WGHS grads since the 10 year reunion - what a difference 40 years can make!  I did what most of us did and attended SJCC, but only for a year.  Wondered around looking for the perfect job and landed at the Phone Company for 12 years.  During those 12 years, I married my high school sweetheart, Dave Volkman, had a son, and made management, all in that order.  We then decided to move to the country here in Loomis, northeast of Sacramento, and raise our son.  I have raised sheep, had a stained glass business and now love to quilt.  I went back to school to get my degree as it was hard to explain to our son why he should finish school.  I was a history major, but minored in Policial Science.  I was an intern at the Capitol for a semester, what an eye opener and great fun.

Our son, Eric, is 31, married, works for Kaiser in Administration, and is working on his MBA which he will finish in December of this year.  His wife, Tracy, is an Audiologist in private practice.  They have no children yet (hopeful Grandmother speaking), but have only been married 4 years.

Now about husband David.  I could fill out a bio for him, but he lives at the same place as me.  He also went SJCC for a year, but then went to California Maritime Academy where he received a commission in the Navy and a degree in Marine Engineering.  This degree is needed to work aboard cargo and cruise ships.  He worked his way up to the top of his field and became Chief Engineer for American President Lines.  He has sailed all over the world, I sometimes test him to see if he has been to some obscure place and he has.  He can tell you about Viet Nam and pirates and stowaways.  He retired 5 years ago and so did I.  We have been traveling with friends in our RV or riding around on our street bikes.  Dave belongs to a dirt bike club that puts on Hangtown Motocross here and he rides with friends all over.

We can't wait to see you all.
